Several isomeric forms exist, the more important being CH3CH2CH2CH2CH2- (amyl or pentyl); (CH3)2CHCH2CH2- (isoamyl or isopentyl); CH3CH2CH2CH(CH)3- and (CH3CH2)2CH- (secondary amyl or pentyl); and CH3CH2C(CH3)2- (tertiary amyl or pentyl).
