[in″su-lin-o´mah]a tumor of the beta cells of the islets of Langerhans; although usually benign, it is one of the chief causes of hypoglycemia.

insulinoma
A well-differentiated pancreatic endocrine neoplasm associated with Whipple's triad:(1) Symptoms and signs of hypoglycaemia;
(2) Concomitant plasma glucose level of 45 mg/dL or less; and
(3) Symptoms reverse with the administration of glucose. Amyloid is often found in insulinomas.
Prognosis
Insulinomas, especially if small, have an excellent prognosis.
