INSL3

A gene on chromosome 19p13.2-p12 that encodes an insulin-like hormone produced in gonadal tissue which may be involved in the development of urogenital tract and female fertility, as well as regulate growth and differentiation of the gubernaculum, thereby mediating intra-abdominal testicular descent.

Molecular pathology
INSL3 mutations may be associated with cryptorchidism.

The development of fibrous tissue, as in wound healing or by other stimulating factors, e.g., as retrolental fibroplasia in the neonate due to the administration of excessive oxygen.
