retinal correspondence, abnormal (ARC)

A type of retinal correspondence in which the fovea of one eye is associated with an extrafoveal area of the other eye to give rise to a perception of a single object. This phenomenon is common in strabismus, but may also occur as a result of a macular lesion. ARC is often classified in three types: (1) Harmonious, in which the angle of anomaly is equal to the objective angle of deviation. This indicates that the ARC fully corresponds to the strabismus. (2) Unharmonious, in which the angle of anomaly is less than the objective angle of deviation. (3) Paradoxical, when the angle of anomaly is greater than the objective angle of deviation. ARC can be detected by examination with a major amblyoscope, with the after-image test, or by comparison between the objective and the subjective angles of deviation measured with the alternate cover test and either a Maddox rod or the von Graefe's test, respectively (a difference between the objective and the subjective angles indicates ARC) (Fig. R10). Syn. anomalous retinal correspondence; ret-inal incongruity. See incongruous diplopia; physi-ological diplopia; phi movement; after-image test; Bagolini's test.

Patient discussion about abnormal

Q. Hi, my friend is suffering from episodes of depression and abnormal behavior which disrupts his life. Hi, my friend is suffering from episodes of depression and abnormal behavior which disrupts his life. I thought that he is affecting by Bipolar. I need some help?

A. You are a good friend to care. He needs to get evaluated by a doctor. That is the one thing that will get the best care and help for your friend. Keep talking with your friend and getting things out in the open. That's the best you can do. Depression can come from repressed anger or a chemical imbalance, or a life crisis or other things. I am not a doctor or an expert on the subject, just a patient who got help from my doctor. Drinking will not help depression. It will make it worse.

Q. I have a doubt, where people suffered by bipolar have thinking about suicide. My uncle was suffered from bipolar disorder. Before 3 months he committed suicide. I have a doubt, where people suffered by bipolar have thinking about suicide.

A. Thank you for sharing with us Devontae,

Again I am sorry for your loss. Chances are that your uncle suffered with bipolar disorder for a lot longer than 3 months. Unfortunately some people wait until it is too late to seek help. It takes so much for a person to admit they have a problem and activly seek the help they need, I have the utmost respect for those who have been able to seek the help and been able to help themselves and their family. So many fall through the cracks though, being misdiagnosed or waiting until they are so far into depression or mania that they need it to end right away. Theropy and medications take time to work, there is a process involved in finding the right combination of meds and theropy, unfortunately for some that process takes too long.
I dont know what your uncle was experiencing before his passing, I hope that he is now pain free. I am praying for you and your family at this time, as well as your uncle I pray that he is now in peace.
