AGUS

Atypical Glandular Cell of Undetermined Significance. A glandular cell with atypia reported on 0.5% to 2.5% of all pap smears. Many translate into clinically significant (neoplastic, preneoplastic) lesions; many are squamous dysplasia without glandular neoplasia.
Note: In the 2001 Bethesda system, AGUS was eliminated and replaced by the term AGS (atypical glandular cells) with attempts to identify the cell(s) as endometrial, endocervical, or unqualified.
