Diffuse systemic oedema due to an accumulation of fluid in the interstitial space.

Aetiology
Liver failure, resulting in a loss of protein production and decreased oncotic pressure; kidney failure, resulting in proteinuria and decreased oncotic pressure; fluid overload; heart failure; chemotherapeutic agents, resulting in capillary leakage syndrome.
