A bicyclic organic compound obtained by reduction from the camphor tree (Dryobalanops camphora) of Borneo and Sumatra, which irritates mucocutaneous surfaces. Borneol is used in chemical reactions, is a natural insect repellant and used in traditional Chinese medicine as moxa.
