DOTS

Acronym for Directly Observed Treatment, Short course. This is a multi-facetted American scheme of control of tuberculosis involving accurate diagnosis, an adequate supply of drugs, standardized effective treatment and systematic review of progress. In China, between 1991 and 2000, the DOTS strategy significantly reduced the prevalence of tuberculosis in certain areas.
