radiography demonstrating the intracranial fluid-containing spaces after the withdrawal of cerebrospinal fluid and introduction of air or other gas; it includes pneumoencephalography and ventriculography.

Radiographic examination of the brain in which some of the cerebrospinal fluid is replaced with air or another gas that acts as a contrast medium.

encephalography

Any X ray examination of the brain. In air encephalography, the cerebrospinal fluid in the brain ventricles is replaced by air. CT SCANNING and MRI have rendered this very unpleasant procedure obsolete.
