a minute fiber or filament. adj., adj fi´brillar, fi´brillary.
collagen f's delicate fibrils of collagen in connective tissue, composed of molecules of tropocollagen in linear array. In Type I collagen, the most common type, the tropocollagen molecules are associated in periodic, staggered arrays that give the appearance of cross-banding, forming unit fibrils; these unit fibrils are aggregated in bundles to form larger fibrils, with longitudinal striations, which may themselves be aggregated into fibers.

1. A small slender fiber or filament.
2. Anatomy A threadlike fiber or filament, such as a myofibril or neurofibril, that is a constituent of a cell or larger structure.
3. A long strand of proteins that are aggregated together in a beta-sheet structure; an amyloid fibril.
