laryngotomy

 [lar″ing-got´ah-me]
incision of the larynx.
inferior laryngotomy incision of the larynx through the lower part of the fibroelastic membrane of the larynx (cricothyroid membrane).
median laryngotomy incision of the larynx through the thyroid cartilage; called also thyrotomy and thyroidotomy.
subhyoid laryngotomy (superior laryngotomy) incision of the larynx through the fibroelastic membrane attached to the hyoid bone and the thyroid cartilage (thyrohyoid membrane).
