A piperidylacetophenone; an alkaloid of lobelia with the same actions as nicotine, but with less potency.

lobeline

An alkaloid found in Indian tobacco (Lobelia inflata) and other Lobelia species which has been used to manage tobacco and drug addictions, in part by acting as a vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VAMT2) ligand, increasing or decreasing dopamine release (depending on the receptor to which it binds). Lobeline usually evokes emesis and, if absorbed in excess, may have toxic effects.

A mixture of alkaloids with action similar to nicotine. Lobeline is derived from plants of the Lobelia genus and has been used as a respiratory stimulant, but is of little medical importance.
