microaerophile
An anaerobic bacterium which requires O2 only as a terminal electron acceptor. Microaerophiles grow poorly at ambient (21% O2) levels and therefore do not grow on the surface of culture plates; they also grow poorly in anaerobic conditions.Example
Campylobacter jejuni grows optimally at 5% O2 (10% CO2 and 85% N2).
