Medical term:
nCk
NCK1
A gene on chromosome 3q21 that encodes an adapter protein which associates with tyrosine-phosphorylated growth factor receptors (e.g., KDR and PDGFRB) or their substrates. NCK1 maintains low levels of EIF2S1 phosphorylation by promoting its dephosphorylation by PP1. It plays a role in DNA damage response by activating downstream effectors, such as that of CHEK2, and in ELK1-dependenttranscriptional activation in response to activated Ras signalling.
