norethisterone

A PROGESTOGEN drug used to treat excessive menstrual bleeding, painful menstruation, ENDOMETRIOSIS and metastatic breast cancer. The drug is on the WHO official list. Brand names are Primolut N and Utovlan. The drug is also widely used in combination with an oestrogen as an oral contraceptive. It is formulated with ETHINYLOESTRADIOL (ethinylestradiol) under such brand names as Binovum, Brevinor, Loestrin 20, Norinyl-1, Otho-Novin 1/50, Ovysmen, Synphase and Trinovum; and with oestradiol (estradiol) valerate under the brand names Climagest and Climesse.
