A condition (OMIM:123100) characterised by premature fusion of one or more cranial sutures, resulting in an abnormal head shape.

Molecular pathology
Defects of TWIST1, which encodes a basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factor, cause craniosynostosis type 1.

oxycephaly

A skull abnormality causing the head to assume a conical or peaked appearance. Oxycephaly is due to premature closure of the irregular junctions on the side of the skull between the bones of the vault (the coronal or lambdoidal sutures). Also known as tower head.
