paravaccinia
[par″ah-vak-sin´e-ah]an infection due to the paravaccinia virus, a species of the genus Parapoxvirus that produces lesions similar to those of cowpox and orf on the udders and teats of milk cows. Paravaccinia may be transmitted to humans during milking, producing purple nodules on the fingers or adjacent areas; the lesions break down and crust and heal without scarring.
