(sē'rō-neg'ă-tiv),Lacking an antibody of a specific type in serum; used to mean absence of previous infection with a specific agent (for example, rubella virus), disappearance of antibodies after treatment of a disease (for example, syphilis), or absence of antibody usually found in a given syndrome (for example, rheumatoid arthritis without rheumatoid factor).
