[vas″o-ak´tiv]exerting an effect upon the caliber of blood vessels.
vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP) a peptide hormone that, in addition to its vasoactive properties, stimulates intestinal secretion of water and electrolytes, inhibits gastric secretion, promotes glycogenesis, causes hyperglycemia, and stimulates production of pancreatic juice.
