virilism

Masculinization in the female. This may occur in tumours of the adrenal glands or ovaries which secrete abnormal quantities of the male hormones, the androsterones, or in the condition of congenital adrenal hyperplasia. There is increased growth of body hair, balding at the temples, acne, absence of menstruation, enlargement of the clitoris, increased muscular development and deepening of the voice.
