[ti´mo-lol]a beta-adrenergic blocking agent; the maleate salt or the hemihydrate is used topically to lower intraocular pressure in glaucoma and ocular hypertension, and the maleate salt is used orally to reduce the long-term risk of mortality and reinfarction after the acute phase of a myocardial infarction, as an antihypertensive agent, and in the prevention of migraine.
