Strychnos

(strik'nos),
A genus of tropic shrubs or trees (family Loganiaceae); most South American species contain chiefly quaternary neuromuscular blocking alkaloids, for example, curare; the African, Asiatic, and Australian species contain tertiary strychninelike alkaloids (for example, strychnine, brucine, and yohimbine-type alkaloids).
