An obsolete technique for increasing the collateral circulation of the myocardium, in which sterile magnesium silicate (a form of talc) was used to induce adhesions between the heart and the pericardium.

(kahr'dē-ō-per-i-kahr'dē-ō-pek-sē)

An operation to increase the blood supply to the myocardium; magnesium silicate is spread within the pericardial sac, or the sac is mechanically abraded, to cause an adhesive pericarditis and an increase in blood supply to develop through stimulation of intraarterial coronary anastomoses and pericardial collaterals.
