fumigant

(fū′mĭ-gănt) [L. fumigare, to make smoke]
An agent used in disinfecting a room. The substance produces fumes that are lethal to insects and rodents. Chemicals used include hydrogen cyanide gas, acrylonitrile, carbon tetrachloride, ethylene oxide, and methyl bromide.

CAUTION!

All of these chemicals are highly toxic, potentially lethal, and in some cases explosive. They should be used only by persons skilled in their application.
