 [ho-mat´ro-pēn]
an anticholinergic and antimuscarinic producing sympathetic blockade effects similar to but weaker than those of atropine; the hydrobromide salt is used as a mydriatic and cycloplegic and the methylbromide salt is used as an inhibitor of gastric spasm and secretion.

A drug used in the form of eyedrops to widen the pupils for ophthalmic examination and temporarily to paralyze the muscles of the iris to assist in the treatment of iris inflammation (anterior UVEITIS).
