[ok´sĭ-jen-ās″]any enzyme of the oxidoreductase class that catalyzes the incorporation of both atoms of molecular oxygen into the substrate.

(ok'si-jĕ-nās),One of a group of enzymes (EC subclass 1.13) that catalyzes direct incorporation of O2 into substrates; for example, tryptophan 2,3-dioxygenase (tryptophan pyrrolase) catalyzes a reaction between O2 and l-tryptophan to form N-l-formylkynurenine. Compare: dioxygenase, monooxygenases.
