pseudopodium

(pl. psuedopodia) a protoplasmic projection (a ‘false foot’) from the main body of a protozoan - especially Rhizopods such as Amoeba - and from white blood cells. The cell moves in the direction from which the pseudopodium is produced and it is also used to engulf particles, both as food (in protozoans) and in PHAGOCYTOSIS. see AMOEBOID MOVEMENT.
