A term referring to the unburned, partially burned and burning propellant grains that abrade and embed in the skin, which are typical of intermediate/close/near-range entrance gun shot wounds.

tattooing

Deliberate or accidental insertion of coloured material into the deeper layers of the skin. Tattooing commonly follows deep abrasions or nearby explosions. Brown or black particles buried deep in the skin cause a blue colouring. Decorative tattooing may be complicated by skin infection or allergy, HEPATITIS B, AIDS, PSORIASIS, LICHEN PLANUS and DISCOID LUPUS ERYTHEMATOSUS.
